After being a part of some critically acclaimed films, Abhay Deol dons the producer’s cap in his debut production One By Two. The movie also stars Abhay’s real-life girlfriend, Preeti Desai as the female lead. After facing a lot of controversies, One By Two has finally hit the screens. Let’s see how it is.

Story:

Amit Sharma (Abhay Deol) leads a dull and boring life. Seeing his pathetic life style, even his girlfriend leaves him for good. Meanwhile, Samaira (Preeti Desai) is also living a similar life elsewhere. She wants to become a famous dancer, but is not able to find an opportunity to display her skills.

Both of them lack confidence, but destiny has planned something else for them. One fine day, they meet each other, and then starts a beautiful love story and also the struggle to discover themselves.

Rest of the story is as to how the couple manage to get out of their boring lives and find love in each other.

Positive points:

The movie is youth oriented and the director has raised issues that the youth face during their growing up stages in the best way possible. The film also speaks largely about the frustration within youngsters when it comes to making career choices.

The concept is fresh and will be loved by the youth of today. Abhay Deol, as usual, is perfect in his portrayal of a lazy, dull guy. The actor steals the show every time he comes on screen.

Though debutante Preeti Desai is a newcomer, her acting is top notch. The actress is a charmer and plays her part brilliantly. The chemistry between the off screen couple is clearly visible on screens as well.

Negative Points:

A few scenes in the movie fall out of place. Here is where the debutante director, fails to execute the shots properly. Another weak part of the movie is its songs.

Music by Shankar Ehsaan Loy does not go well with the plot. Certain scenes remind you of many love stories from the past. Second half become predictable at times.

Star Performances:
The mellifluous Abhay Deol is sorrowfully wasted in a film like this. I still cannot sum up the equation that led Abhay to not only act in this film but also produce it.

Preeti Desai plays a cardboard character in the film and after closely looking at her all through the film, I concluded her acting skills are highly questionable as it clearly lacks the needed knack for the work.

Amongst all the characters it is the senior ladies Lillette Dubey and Rati Agnihotri who steal your hearts in their delicate little parts but have very little screen space to act as saving grace.

Technical Aspects:

Director Devika Bhagat, who had earlier written screenplay of movies including Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ladies vs Ricky Bahl and Jab Tak Hai Jaan, has done a decent job.

The screenplay and the dialogues are extremely amusing. As said above, music is the biggest drawback of the film. Editing is sharp and so is the cinematography. The camera very well covers the life of a youngster in today’s world.

Verdict:

On the whole, One by two is definitely a refreshing film. Specially targeted at the youth, the film is bound to do well with the younger generation. You may watch it.
